MWM DesignGroup conducted a comprehensive feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the Bathhouse Zone at Barton Springs, focusing on the north side of the pool in Zilker Park, an area long considered the “soul of Austin.” The study centered around the historic Bathhouse and surrounding facilities between the Violet Crown Trailhead and the Pecan Grove Picnic Area, incorporating goals from the 2008 Barton Springs Pool Master Plan.
The team evaluated the condition and function of existing buildings and amenities, assessed environmental, historical, and regulatory constraints, and identified opportunities for rehabilitation. Public input was gathered through meetings and surveys, with over 1,300 responses helping shape project priorities. The study concluded with recommendations for three major future projects, recognizing that much of the area’s infrastructure, including the historic Bathhouse, is nearing the end of its service life.
