Site Plan

Large xeriscaped planters
bring color and natural relief with drought-resistant plant species to the large paved areas of reflective concrete pavement.  Landscape design by Winterowd Associates.

The concept is: "bringing passengers and buses under the same roof."

The Clock Tower is the beacon.
This 35-foot cast-in-place concrete tower has four clocks visible from all parts of the Transit Facility symbolizing the Transit Agency's pride in their timely and reliable service.

Plan layout illustrating the balanced solution. The canopies optimize the structural system by sharing the pilasters for balance and material efficiency.  The middle mast also functions as the light pole illuminating bus travel lanes.

Solar and wind protection are essential. Benches, leaning rails and seat walls give passengers diverse seating options to find protection from the sun during the hot summer months or wind during the cold winter months. Rain water is directed to the planters via the pilaster reveal.

Dynamic canopies define the character of the site. The minimal cable structure achieves large clear spans shading great areas of the passenger bays, while curving windscreens shield passengers from the harsh winter winds.

Signage is integral to the design.  Branding and wayfinding design by fd2s consultants became an integral part of each Bus Loading Bay.

Passengers' safety is a priority.  Multi-level lighting creates a safe environment, especially during the hours of darkness.  Illuminating the paths, waiting areas and circulation became important design elements.

The aspirations of an expanding transit agency are reflected in this design where passenger safety, comfort and convenience became the most important goals.

The program included ten bus loading bays, including two for future articulated buses, a clock tower, Kiss-and-Ride, lighting, signage, future expansion of adjacent land into higher density Transit-Oriented Development and direct High-Occupancy Vehicle connection to IH-35.
