sustainable design

As an organization of surveyors, architects, civil engineers, landscape architects, and entitlement/permitting specialists MWM DesignGroup is profoundly conscious of the importance of interdisciplinary coordination in sustainable design. MWM considers projects in holistic terms — on the basis of a sound professional understanding of the interrelationship of individual project elements and systems. MWM evaluates all elements of a design from site considerations and utility infrastructure through architectural finishes and building accessories. Minimizing construction footprints, preserving tree and natural areas, protecting our waterways, sourcing local building and planting materials, and enhancing the quality of life of our communities are central to our design approach.

The firm has also been involved in the design of prominent projects such as the Lower Colorado River Authority’s Red Bud Center (LEED Gold); the City of Austin Blunn Creek Low Impact Development (LID); the City of Austin’s Salamander Research Center and Interpretive Plaza at the Austin Nature and Science Center; Texas State University Round Rock Nursing School (applying for LEED Silver); and Austin Energy’s Emergency Control Center (applying for LEED Silver);Capital Metro’s Commuter Rail and Park and Ride facilities, Waller Creek Tunnel as well as Riverside Drive Corridor Study. MWM’s work on these projects emphasizes the firm’s commitment to sustainable ideals and the applicability of that approach to mainstream design.
