Originally Martinez and Wright Engineers, MWM DesignGroup was founded in Austin, Texas in 1980 by Roberto O. Martinez, P.E. and Michael B. Wright, P.E., R.P.L.S., to provide civil engineering and land surveying services to both public and private clients throughout Texas.
From the very beginning, Roberto Martinez and Michael Wright promoted three core values for the company:
- Through genuine teamwork, consistently exceed client expectations;
- Treat every employee and every client like family;
- Serve the community’s best interests, both professionally and personally.
As the company grew and prospered, MWM expanded its capabilities to provide architecture, landscape architecture, and governmental relations and jurisdictional services, disciplines closely integrated with the firm’s original professional services.
Eduardo O. Mendez, R.P.L.S. brought on by Michael Wright at the founding of the firm, became a principal in 1994, leading to a change in the company’s name to Martinez, Wright and Mendez. MWM experienced further growth in 1998 when Julia M. Harrod, P.E., and R. Larry Halford, AIA, employees with MWM since 1990 and 1997 respectively, became principals. Amelia Lopez-Phelps joined the company as a principal in 2007 to expand the firm’s governmental relations and jurisdictional efforts. The company was renamed MWM DesignGroup in 2007 to emphasize the integrated design services provided by the firm.
